Hello, I'm Wafer

I’m happy I’ve adopted and added him to my family! No one is as spoiled as he is.

Wafer's Story

After a couple rough first days, it took some settling in and adjusting for Wafer. Since then he’s settled in nicely and is a very important member of the family. I have Chihuahuas and Wafer looks very similar to one of my Chihuahuas I lost in 2012 at the age of 2 1/2 to autoimmune disease. His name was Shadow and I also had his sister Belle. Losing Shadow was devastating for me as he was so young and didn’t get to enjoy life. Last August, I lost his sister at the age of 10. My husband thought he saw her have a seizure early last year, she declined rapidly. With the pandemic and her sudden decline, I took her loss especially hard, perhaps harder than her brother’s. I truly believe that Shadow and Belle led me to Wafer as I wasn’t planning on adopting another dog as I had 5 Chi’s one of them was born without eyes and is special.

Wafer is adjusting to the fact he’s a little bigger than the Chihuahuas even though my now oldest weighs as much as he does. Wafer acts silly sometimes and he’s become a goofball. He shares the bed with three of my five Chihuahuas. I’ve found that he’s a very deep sleeper. Good luck if you get up in the middle of the night because where he falls asleep, he stays. He literally becomes a rock and won’t move. It’s next to impossible to move him. He’s not a large dog either. Wafer loves car rides and insists he go everywhere! No one is as spoiled as he is. Tonight he went with to pick up a curbside order at PetSmart, pick up an ice cream cone, and we stopped at McDonald’s just get Wafer a special treat, some chicken McNuggets. Oh and he got a bone at PetSmart! He loves walks and can beg like the Chihuahuas for food. All the dogs play together, but he has been taught the order he falls in with the pack. Wafer wouldn’t touch treats or toys for several days after I brought him home. I thought he would never take a treat or play with a toy, but that’s changed. His favorite toy is a stuffed red, white, and blue cow; he plays with it on the bed. He plays with it, it falls off the bed, he gets off the bed to bring it back on the bed, and repeat. This furkid always surprises me and makes me laugh. Wafer just thinks he’s a big Chihuahua. Very much loved too!

Wafer has gone through his first training class on a virtual basis through PAWS training. I was so shocked at how focused he was during the training sessions. Papillons are very smart and Wafer is a Papillon mix. When I went through obedience training with the Chihuahuas, they were aloof and not focused. I thank PAWS for all the support they’ve given me and Wafer. I’m happy I’ve adopted and added him to my family!
