25 years of saving homeless pets

When we began this journey in 1997, we made a promise to Chicago's homeless pets: that PAWS would work to end the unnecessary killing each year of tens of thousands of helpless cats and dogs.

Today, as we enter our 25th anniversary year, we — and the animals who depend on us — have so much to be grateful for.

Our solutions-based approach has led the way to a 91% drop in euthanasia citywide since our founding. We've performed more than 280,000 free and low-cost spay/neuter surgeries, found loving homes for more than 70,000 pets, and consistently saved 98% of the pets who come through our doors. And while these achievements are remarkable, it’s just the beginning.

We wouldn't be here without incredible people like you whose commitment to building a No Kill Chicago has made a real difference in the lives of cats and dogs. Our generous supporters were simply extraordinary in 2021, and each of the last 24 years. Thanks to you, PAWS Chicago is a groundbreaking leader in animal welfare with a passionate army of supporters, volunteers, fosters and adopters who literally save lives every day.

Looking to the future, we’re excited to continue raising standards in animal welfare by responding to the ever-evolving problems homeless pets face. Animals rely on each of us to be their voices and their protectors, and we will be there — in 2022 and beyond.

Warmest regards,
