Kiki Heron first got involved with PAWS Chicago two years ago as a member of TEAM PAWS in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.
“I wanted to be surrounded by a supportive community while I prepared to run my first marathon,” said Kiki.
And she got even more than she hoped for.
“I was so blown away by the support that I wanted to reciprocate and become a Shepherd (mentor) to my fellow TEAM PAWS runners. I love enhancing their experience with additional advice and inspiration!”
On the day of the BOA Chicago Marathon, Kiki’s expectations were once again exceeded.
“Running in my TEAM PAWS singlet is an experience I will cherish forever. So many spectators called out ‘Go PAWS!’ that their cheers and encouragement carried me the entire 26.2 miles.”
Kiki supports is also an active member of the PAWS Chicago Professional Board and one of our top volunteers, giving her time at our Medical Center Days.
“It warms my heart when I am volunteering, and folks pull out their phone to show me a picture of their own PAWS alumni and regale me with the stories of how much their pet has become a part of their family!”
But, just like our No Kill mission, Kiki’s appreciation for PAWS Chicago extends far beyond finding homes for pets.
“PAWS Chicago is monitoring Chicago's feral cat colonies, providing low- and no-cost vaccinations, and building relationships with animal shelters across the country. I am constantly impressed by the thoroughness in which PAWS Chicago exemplifies the No Kill mission.”
