On November 22, 2016, Chicago Police Animal Crimes Unit investigated complaints of inhumane conditions at a home. When they arrived, they found a backyard breeder hoarding dogs. The dogs, ranging in age from just a few weeks to several years, were being kept in unsanitary conditions and had never been given medical care. They were filthy and needed immediate rescue.
PAWS Chicago took in 15 of these Chihuahua-mix dogs and puppies. Most of them are traumatized, under-socialized and experiencing tremendous stress. They are at our medical center now, receiving much needed care and medical treatment.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Foster: These dogs require some time before they are ready for adoption. We need highly experienced, adult-only foster families to provide love and socialization to these stressed and anxious dogs while they recover. Existing PAWS Chicago foster families, please email foster@pawschicago.org.
New to fostering but still want to help? While these frightened animals require the support of highly experienced foster families, we regularly need fosters for family-friendly dogs and cats at our Medical Center. Every animal that we can place in a foster home allows us to rescue another one. Consider opening your home to help save two lives! Get started by filling out our foster application.
Pick-ups can be arranged at our Medical Center. Please be patient if you do not receive an immediate response. Our team is hard at work caring for these animals, and will be back to you just as soon as possible; response time will be longer than usual.
Donate: If you can’t foster, please consider donating to help provide needed medical care, socialization and training for these homeless dogs.
