Hello, I'm Tamarind

I can’t believe it’s already been two months since we adopted Tamarind, now renamed Whiskey! Thank you for reaching out and checking on the new member of our family, everything is going very well!

Tamarind's Story

He has officially adopted all of us, and  he keeps an eye on everyone in the house. It’s very funny how he spends time with each of us: my husband, our two teenagers and me. We are all trying to be his favorite! But he will alternate rooms to be with each of us.

When we adopted him from Paws, he was double leashed, and we were told that our kids should not walk him by themselves initially. He was pulling so hard on the leash, and he is a 62 lbs dog. We got a walking harness with the buckle on the front, and that did the trick. Once he seemed to get the hang of walking around the neighborhood, it’s been very easy. The kids have no problem walking him now. And they all love it.

A typical day for Whiskey includes an early morning walk with my husband, breakfast served by my daughter, some alone time while we are at work and school, a nice walk with our dog walker Tobey, some quiet time again, then an afternoon walk to the park with the first kid that comes home from school, some family time moving from kitchen, bedrooms and family rooms, a bit of outside playtime or training with me, dinner, a late night walk around the neighborhood again with me, and finally nighttime typically sleeping on my daughter’s bed.

A few things we’ve learned about Whiskey:

  •  He is not an early riser. He will absolutely sleep in until 8:30 or 9am on the weekend.
  • He stretches for a good 10 minutes when he first wakes up.
  • As my daughter would point out, he can do an awesome downward dog pause!
  • He loves to curl up in bed with someone.
  • He can shred a tennis ball in no time
  • He loves playing tug of war
  • He is so patient when we brush his teeth, clean his ears and brush him.
  • He doesn’t care if a rabbit, a cat or a rat is around, and won’t attempt to chase them. He will try really hard to go after ducks or geese in a pond though!
