Kyra's Story

Kyra made herself right at home pretty quickly after bringing her here. Although a little fearful, she is very friendly and loves to play! Especially fetch and tug of war. She spends majority of her day cuddled up next to either me or my boyfriend, when we’re inside she’s a very a calm, chill dog. She absolutely LOVES being outside (no shocker there!) however we’re still learning how to walk on a leash. We try to take her outside 3x a day with at least one of those being without a leash in our backyard so she can really get out her zoomies. Even with all the outside time to burn off energy I still think she needs some other form of an outlet because she gets really overstimulated really quickly. I tried to take her to the doggy daycare where I work but I think it was a little overwhelming for her. She’s too old to go in with the high energy puppies and cowered in a corner when in the main group (typically 30 dogs). She did okay in a smaller group with older dogs but she still has trouble taking corrections from other dogs so the older pups got tired of her very fast.  I only take her on days when I know we’re at very low capacity now. She did absolutely love going to the dog park, though, on those few nice days we had. But as I said she doesn’t listen to corrections from other dogs very well which is a good way to start fights at the park with a bunch of loose dogs.

We’ve done a few training things with her like “sit”, “wait”, and “leave it” all of which she caught on to pretty quickly but she still definitely needs professional help. That’ll come very soon for her though and we’ll just keep feeding her all the chicken during her training with us in the meantime. She’s not nearly as food motivated as other dogs I’ve met but she still does about anything for a piece of chicken.
Honestly I could type for hours about this dog and all the amazingly cute things she does but instead I’ll just attach a few photos!
