Hello, I'm Carlo

Carlo is doing great! He's a big cuddlebug and loves belly rubs, licking people and playing tug with the many ropes we have. We love our Carlo and can't imagine life without him!

Carlo's Story

Carlo (PAWS Chicago name, Rhondo) is a very handsome pup who came to PAWS Chicago from a partner shelter in Oklahoma. Because this sweet boy never had a permanent place to call home, he was understandably fearful of new people, environments and strange noises. He needed help gaining back his confidence. PAWS volunteers and staff engaged Carlo in regular basic obedience and agility training sessions which this smart boy picked up quickly. He began to come out of his shell and started to trust people. To give him a break from the Adoption Center, Carlo spent time in a wonderful foster home. Fortunately, his foster fell in love and gave him the permanent home he deserved.

PAWS Chicago Gold Star volunteer, Michele McIntire, was dedicated to helping Carlo overcome his challenges and finding him the perfect home. According to Michele:

“Carlo was very shy and unsure of himself. I had the opportunity to take him to basic obedience training and agility training at PAWS Chicago’s Training Center and Carlo was a natural.  He is super smart and wanted to learn and work.  He was fostered shortly after that and it turns out his foster mom is pretty smart too because she decided to keep him. He is happily living in the Roscoe Village neighborhood.”

February 25, 2014: Carlo came to PAWS Chicago after being transferred from a partner shelter in Oklahoma.

March 2014: Carlo began basic obedience and agility training and loved showing off his new skills.

August 20, 2014: Carlo was placed into foster to give him a break from the Adoption Center.

September 3, 2014: Carlo was adopted and began his new life.

October 29, 2014 Family Update: Carlo is doing great! He loves his dog 'sister' Elsa and has learned a lot from her, since she's confident and good at just being a dog. Carlo is not the skittish guy that you knew when he was at PAWS. My husband and I have trained him on all the basic commands (sit, stay, down, come, shake) plus one fun one (“touchdown!” where he sits and puts both paws up). We've also worked on touch training to make him less sensitive to the things he's afraid of, such as the vacuum and the broom and he is now less apprehensive about these items. He's a big cuddlebug and loves belly rubs, licking people and playing tug with the many ropes we have. We love our Carlo and can't imagine life without him! Thanks, Janine
