Benedict would love to meet you! He would love to find a home with experienced adults! H
If you’re on the hunt for a canine sidekick to accompany you on all of life’s adventures, then Benedict is the dog for you! He is a vibrant and energetic boy who is searching for an active family who enjoys physical activity just as much as he does. Like most Jack Russell Terriers, Benedict loves to be out and about and is constantly on the move, so he would do best in an adults-only home with an owner who has experience with his breed. Once he has warmed up he is extremely sweet and playful and is always up for going for a long stroll through the park with his favorite humans by his side! He is a huge fan of squeaky toys and has his very own collection here at PAWS that he plays with all day long! Although squeaky toys are super fun to play with, Benedict’s all-time favorite game has to be fetch! He even knows to drop the tennis ball near your feet so you can throw it again and again. To say this boy is talented is an understatement. He is an absolute super star and seems to know it!
Benedict is currently spending time in a wonderful foster home, where his foster dad couldn’t be happier to have him. Here is what his foster had to say about him, “Benedict is a sweet dog who can't wait to be your loyal right-hand man. He has a true eagerness to please, which gives way to an excitement toward training. Benny is so smart, evidenced by his ability to recognize toys by name. He does have the energy to fetch for a couple hours at a time, however, he has a willingness to be more subdued when you need it. An automatic ball thrower would put little Benedict into a state of ecstasy. It'd be a riot to see and a joy for him to fetch endlessly. He will love you even if you only flip the ball or rope with your foot as you read, clean dishes or move around your place. Even when left to his own devices, he will flip and catch rope or scoot the ball to chase on his own. While fostering, Benedict would eat and go outside between 6 and 6:30 am and typically not again until 6-6:30 pm. Never once did he have an accident in my apartment, which he had full run of. Benedict is completely housebroken and knew the correct door immediately, but would never ask to go out. He understands what it means when you say, "Benny! Want to go outside?!". I was able to watch him via home monitor while working and he naps 95% percent of that time. He had run of the whole apartment and nothing was ever torn up or amiss. Benedict’s favorite outlet for his energy is fetch and he is also a good runner. I was able to run at least a couple miles and sometimes many more at a time. He is able to keep up at a 9-minute/mile pace and was pushing harder, but held back by me of course. It is true that little Benny is very affectionate, but with his sensitivities, petting in moderation is best. Particularly in the early days as trust is being built, Benedict will let you know when we craves love in the form of pets and ear scratches. The best way to show love and build trust quickly is to play fetch with a rope or ball. He thinks this is what he is made to do and will go so far as to set the object on your foot for you. He will be your favorite little sidekick and would go anywhere with you. When you adopt Benedict you'll be gaining a funny, intelligent and opinionated little friend that will exceed your best expectations with your love and training.” Benedict is such a special boy, who is hoping to wiggle his way into your heart!
