Sebastian's Story

After 13 years of not having a pet in the house and after a recent, major loss in my family, I was ready for another pet to brighten things up a bit.  After searching many sites to purchase a puppy, I decided to try Paws and adopt a pet in need of a “forever home.”   I was immediately attracted to the cute Chihuahua with the huge ears and pretty brown eyes named Sebastian.  We met and the bond was immediate.  My family and I fell in love with him.  Sebastian has been such a great addition to our family. Not only was he loved by everyone at Paws, he draws attention wherever we go; the park, the drive-thru, or just around the neighborhood.   I am always greeted with smiles, waves, and neighborhood kids running over to play with him.

Sebastian started out as my “advanced foster” pet, but after a month of fostering I knew I wanted to keep trying to work on his behavior issues and adopt him permanently.   One of his biggest issues was his negative reaction to other animals, mostly dogs.  However, I am glad to report that after a much needed “play date” with my cousin’s Bichon Frise, Sebastian is not as reactive as when I first adopted him.  Sebastian was leery at first but after about forty minutes of feeling each other out, they played for two hours straight!  He still growls and barks if another animal appears to invade his territory.   My mom and I started off using a training DVD that offered great tips but we have decided to start some intense training with a certified trainer next month.

Sebastian is adorable, affectionate, loves people, house broken, crate trained, knows several commands, smart, and energetic.  He lives for walks, rides in the car, and playtime.   Even though Sebastian loves his bed, it is not unusual for me to feel a little fur ball breathing on my neck in the middle of the night just to roll over and see that Sebastian has crawled into bed with me!

Sebastian has a long way to go with his training but he is half way there.  He even stayed four days in a boarding facility while we were out of town.  He also doesn’t whine and cry in his crate anymore when we leave.

I want to thank Paws for their support, kindness, and caring for Sebastian until he found his “forever home”…..with us!!  God willing we will have many, many great years with him.
