The name conjures up images of unspoiled natural beauty and endless adventure. For the volunteers and staff at PAWS Chicago, the Yukon is much more than a part of the Great White North. It also happens to be the name of one PAWS Chicago’s most endearing and beloved cats. Like the territory after which he’s named, four-year-old Yukon is a breathtaking cat with piercing green eyes and stunning brown tabby markings that rival the majesty and splendor of any outdoor landscape.
A people cat, Yukon delights in receiving unending attention from his human friends. When not being lavished with praise and affection from his people, Yukon prefers an enriched indoor environment that offers endless opportunities for exploration and play. Daily structured play sessions with his people are a must for Yukon. Yukon is also leash-trained and would love to experience a bit of the great Chicago outdoors if his family has access to a safe and secure outside area.
Although Yukon may do great in a home as a single pet, he would be thrilled to share his life with another cat (or maybe even a dog). Yukon’s ideal feline companion is best described as a cat who’s never met a cat he or she didn’t like. His future bestie will be someone to keep company with when his humans are away, as well as a pal to wrestle with whenever the mood strikes. Acting as both a friend and role model, Yukon’s companion cat should also be tolerant of cats like Yukon who are still learning the rules of proper cat-to-cat etiquette. Cats who expect their companions to be respectful of boundaries or those who require consent prior to being pounced upon need not apply. Lastly, when asked, Yukon noted that he’s also open to canine companions who have lived harmoniously with cats in the past, are generally calm, and have strong foundational training.
