Annie Burtch
Age:
27
Occupation/title/what you do:
I work at Corporate Translations, Inc. as a Project Manager. I also am a
graduate student at DePaul University pursuing a Masters degree in Secondary
Education with a specialization in Spanish.
What
motivated you to join the PAWS Chicago Marathon team?
I am a
first time marathon runner. I have done a few half marathons, but this is a big
leap for me. I started training on my own, and then also volunteering at PAWS
soon after. During my volunteer orientation session, I immediately became
inspired by the work done at PAWS, and fell in love with the organization. I
then decided that joining the marathon team would not only keep me motivated to
run and also give a chance to meet some new people, but also to give back to an
organization that truly makes a difference in Chicago.
On mile
20, what will you think of to keep going?
I will think about the time and energy that it took to train, and about all of
the adorable dogs in Dog Town at PAWS. I will also think of my friends, family
and co-workers that donated to PAWS, and what the organization means to them.
What
obstacles/fears/challenges are you overcoming by running the marathon?
I have
overcome some serious blisters so far. I have also made it through some early
morning long runs that I was not so sure would ever end.
Why PAWS Chicago?
Because
all dogs and cats deserve a chance to find caring owners and safe homes, and
they are all too cute for words.
How did you find out
about the PAWS Chicago Marathon Team?
I started volunteering
at PAWS. Also, through exploring the PAWS Web site, I found out more about the
team.
