Erin Baird
Age:
29

Occupation/title/what you do:
Veterinarian at Winnetka Animal Hospital
What
motivated you to join the PAWS Chicago Marathon team?
I have been involved with many PAWS animals through my job, and I am always so
impressed with the dedication of the people who work with these special cats and
dogs. When I decided to run a marathon this year, I thought it would make it
that much more meaningful to raise money for such a wonderful cause!
Is this your first
marathon?
It is, but hopefully not my last!
On mile
20, what will you think of to keep going?
By that point in the race, I will be needing some internal strength – I will be
focusing on all those people who have helped and supported me along the way. And
my cats – who will be waiting to curl up with me on the couch for a post race
nap!
What
obstacles/fears/challenges are you overcoming by running the marathon?
The biggest challenge is getting out the door to run 4-5 days a week when I
could be relaxing on the couch! 26.2 miles is a VERY intimidating distance, but
I hope that by working hard during my training, I will be ready to take it on
come race day!
Why PAWS Chicago?
Any
organization that seeks to match needy animals with forever homes deserves all
the support we can give. Both of my cats were adopted from shelters, and I
couldn’t imagine my life without them. PAWS has been a wonderful organization to
work with and they do SO much for the homeless animals in Chicago.
