What motivated you to join the PAWS Chicago
Marathon team?
On May 31, I lost my lifelong friend of 13.5 years, Beethoven
the Spotted Wonder Dalmatian. On June 2, I lost my rescued friend of 3.75 years,
Lucky LaSalle the Lab/Rottie mix. Beethoven was my training partner for my first
marathon and ironman triathlon in 1996. LaSalle got me ready for my very
rewarding trek to Mount Everest Base Camp in 2007.
They both brought so much joy and love to my life and yet asked so little in
return. I am dedicating my effort to their wonderful memories so that homeless
animals and their future forever humans can have the same wonderful loving
relationships that I had with Beethoven and LaSalle. I was genuinely blessed in
so many ways by having them in my life. As I strongly believe in using my
athletic gifts to help others, PAWS was a natural team to join.
Is this your first marathon?
This will be my 20th marathon (Barcelona, Boston, Charlotte NC, Chicago, Kiawah
Island SC, Paris to name a few) but first running for PAWS.
On mile 20, what will you think of to keep going?
Knowing that I have two forever friends by my side running with me to the finish
line.
What obstacles/fears/challenges are you
overcoming by running the marathon?
As I've run 19 before, no major obstacles or challenges but I'd be telling a
tall tale if I claimed I didn't have butterflies when I toed the line on Oct 12
knowing 26.2 is a long ways to run.
Why PAWS Chicago? PAWS Chicago
simply does great things for a cause near and dear to my heart.
How did you find out about the PAWS Chicago
Marathon Team? I am a huge PAWS supporter so I found out
through your email.
