Nicole Cullen
Age: 36
Occupation/title/what you do: Procurement Analyst…lots of
reporting on spend analysis at a chemical company.
What motivated you to join the PAWS Chicago
Marathon team? I wanted to make the marathon experience even
more meaningful. I have raised funds twice for another charity and it is such a
great feeling knowing you are helping others, while improving your own health. Is this your first marathon?
This will be my 7th consecutive Chicago Marathon, 10th overall. :)
On mile 20, what will you think of to keep going?
The race has just begun…but knowing there’s a dedicated group of people running
for a great cause will complete my experience.
What obstacles/fears/challenges are you overcoming
by running the marathon? Each year brings new challenges. This
year I would like to focus on a healthier training regimen overall – my diet,
consistent training (not just being a weekend warrior), and variety in training.
I seem to gain weight, despite all the miles. Sitting at an office job all day
causes me to sometimes confuse boredom and hunger I think!
Why PAWS Chicago? Animals are my
true passion – especially dogs. I grew up with their companionship and
unconditional love. The recent news stories about dog fighting and cruelty is
unthinkable to me and I want to improve the lives of our “best friends” and
increase awareness/educate people. I totally support PAWS Chicago’s mission of
helping all the wonderful animals find those forever, loving homes.
My husband and I have 2 rescued mutts; one from another no-kill organization,
A.D.O.P.T., and one was found by a garbage collector - tied up in a garbage bag
as a pup! My husband took her in and she gives endless kisses of thanks for her
life everyday. Destiny - it was by walking my dog that I met my husband and his
dog…making my life complete.
How did you find out about the PAWS Chicago
Marathon Team? I was familiar with the organization, but
learned of the charity affiliation through the marathon website. I was already
signed up for the marathon and looking to make it more meaningful, so joining
PAWS Chicago Marathon Team was a no-brainer!
