Wyllys Baird

Age: 53. 54 when
we step off the line.
Occupation/title/what you do: Real Estate developer. Investment
manager.
I own my own company.
What motivated you to join the PAWS Chicago
Marathon team? The animals are my wife and my passion. I wanted
to do something more for the animals and I thought the challenge would be a good
goal for me. My nephew also got me thinking about making more challenging goals
for myself after he completed a triathlon. Of course he is 26 years old. I
desperately need to get in better shape. My five best friends, Nancy, Chelsea,
Tank, Maggie and Tanner and wanting more animals to have a life like theirs. Is this your first marathon?
YES! Hopefully not my last.
On mile 20, what will you think of to keep going?
That it has been a long way to get to twenty miles and that the finish is really
not that far away. If I got this far I am going to finish. I will
also be doing anything to keep my mind off the pain and fatigue. I will be
looking for the young ones on the team to inspire me on or carry me but whatever
it takes.
What obstacles/fears/challenges are you overcoming
by running the marathon? I am feeling old, I am definitely way
out of shape, I needed a new challenge, I am a crazy person!
Why PAWS Chicago? Why not!! I
love this organization and the people associated with it, in every aspect. I
wanted to do something more than I already am and I wanted it to be something
different.

How did you find out about the PAWS Chicago
Marathon Team? At a Development Board meeting.
