What motivated you to join the PAWS Chicago
Marathon team? I have 2 dogs, Macy and Rudy, that I adopted
from shelters, so I know how much good shelters can do. Macy and Rudy do their
best to love, protect, and take care of me. It's time for me to return the favor
and help out other animals just like them. Also, Rudy lived in a shelter for
approximately 8 months out of his first year of life in a shelter.
Unfortunately, it wasn't PAWS and he was kept in a crate for most of the day. It
kills me to think that so many animals have to live 95 percent of their everyday
existence in a cage just big enough for them to turn around in.Is this your first marathon?
This is my second marathon. Last year's Chicago marathon was my first.
On mile 20, what will you think of to keep going?
20 down... if I can do 20, I can do 6 more.
What obstacles/fears/challenges are you overcoming
by running the marathon? I ran the marathon last year and it
was really hot. I'm a terrible runner in the hot weather, so even though I
finished, it was much slower that I would have liked. This year, I plan on
improving my time by 1 hour, so that will be quite a challenge. Additionally,
just raising the money for PAWS will be a challenging. I tend to be a bit more
conservative and I hate to ask other people for help. It will force me to use
any and all networking connections in order to raise the most money possible to
PAWS.
Why PAWS Chicago? PAWS has the
best animal shelter that I've ever seen. In comparison to other animals at other
shelters, the animals at PAWS seem 100 times less stressed and more happy.
How did you find out about the PAWS Chicago
Marathon Team? A coworker gave me the brochure.
