What motivated you to join the PAWS Chicago
Marathon team? I have raised funds for another charity in
past years while training for the Chicago Marathon. This year when I saw PAWS
was an official charity, I couldn't resist! Obviously I am a pet lover and I am
insprired by PAWS' new facility in Lincoln Park.Is this your first marathon?
I have run the Chicago Marathon twice before.
On mile 20, what will you think of to keep going?
I will think of a lot of things to keep me going! Running for a charity gives
extra motivation to keep going. There is a drive to finish to thank all those
who have donated and all those who work to keep places like PAWS going every
day.
What obstacles/fears/challenges are you overcoming
by running the marathon? There is always the fear that I
won't finish. The fear of the pain/challenge that starts around mile 16.
Few of my friends are runners so most of them think I am crazy- the love to give
me a hard time.
A challenge everyone faces is finding time to log all those miles of training,
and to do it in the heat of a Chicago summer!
Why PAWS Chicago? I really
believe in pet rescue and no-kill shelters. One of our dogs is a shelter dog and
the other is a rescue. PAWS works hard to protect the furry members of our
community that cannot speak for themselves. How we treat other living creatures
is a measure of our own humanity. The first time I heard about a cage-free
facility, it was the City Pound in Washington, DC. I was really impressed with
the forward-thinking concept. When I heard PAWS Chicago was opening a similar
type of facility, it made me proud to know that Chicago would also be on the
forefront of this cage-free 'revolution'!
