Brian Monroe

Age: 34
Occupation/title/what you do: Human
Resources/Human Resources Specialist/Employee & Labor Relations. Also own a
small business called SconeWild, wholesale and retail provider of scones
in the Chicago area.
What motivated you to join the PAWS Chicago
Marathon team? I wanted to run for a cause/charity.
I adopted my dog Mitzi four years ago from the Chicago Canine Rescue. She had
been rescued from an abandoned apartment. She has been an amazing dog and I am
so glad I was able to adopt her and have her be part of my life. So, I thought
raising money for PAWS Chicago was the right thing to do and would motivate me
even more.
Is this your first marathon?
This is the first marathon for both of us.
On mile 20, what will you think of to keep going?
I will be thinking how amazing it is going to feel crossing that finish line and
that I helped a great organization in the process
What obstacles/fears/challenges are you overcoming
by running the marathon? I love running, my favorite
activity. I have always been hesitant to run a marathon because I was nervous
about getting injured and didn't want to get to a point where I was sick of
running after training, and the actual marathon. But, I finally decided to do it
because of the great challenge and the amazing satisfaction I am sure I will
feel as I cross that finish line.
Why PAWS Chicago? I think it is
so important that all shelters be cageless and no kill if possible and have such
respect for PAWS Chicago for proving that it can be done. I am so glad to be
supporting such a great organization.
How did you find out about the PAWS Chicago
Marathon Team? My partner told me about it
