Alexis Fasseas
Age: 27

Occupation/title/what you do: I work in
community banking and I’m just finishing the first of three years as a JD-MBA
grad student.
What motivated you to join the PAWS Chicago
Marathon team?
I watched the 2007 Marathon, cheering on the few and proud first year PAWS
Chicago runners and decided that “it’s now or never!” There’s no better reason
to run than the motivation of helping to save cats and dogs who otherwise
wouldn’t have a chance at life.
Is this your first marathon?
Oh yeah…and I’m scared!
On mile 20, what will you think of to keep going?
Presuming I make it that far, I’ll be thinking that my pain pales in comparison
to the challenges that homeless pets face every single day…things like being
abandoned by your family, being locked in a strange, cold cage without comfort
or companionship, and of course, the reality that nearly 20,000 pets are killed
each year in Chicago through no fault of their own.
What obstacles/fears/challenges are you overcoming
by running the marathon? Knees!
Why PAWS Chicago? PAWS Chicago has
been so much of my life the past decade—if it wasn’t for the PAWS Marathon Team
I would never have even considered stepping up to this challenge. Knowing that
I’ll sharing this experience with a group of animal lovers and that we’re doing
it on behalf of homeless pets makes it so very meaningful.
