Support PAWS Chicago's No Kill mission to save even more pets!

Holiday Adopt-A-Thon

PAWS Chicago will host its Holiday Adopt-A-Thon on Friday, December 6, Saturday, December 7, and Sunday, December 8. The PAWS Chicago Pippen Fasseas Adoption Center will extend its adoption hours each day for this special three-day adoption marathon in an effort to help homeless dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens find a home in time for the holidays. Its goal is to both save lives through adoption and raise awareness around the issue of pet overpopulation and the needless killing of homeless animals.

Cats and dogs are still being turned into shelters in alarming numbers. By working with the community, PAWS Chicago is hoping to give these special animals a second chance. When you adopt from an animal shelter or rescue organization, you are not just saving one life; you are helping to create the space we need to rescue more animals.

Help PAWS Chicago make this adoption event a success and find new homes for animals by stopping by our Pippen Fasseas Adoption Center in Lincoln Park for this life-saving adoption marathon!

Adopt-a-Thon Wait List

We will allow wait lists for dogs shown on the website arriving after 1 pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (We will begin to take names for these dogs at 10 am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday outside of our Lincoln Park Adoption Center). The wait list applies only to dogs arriving after 1pm each day.

  • You may place your name on a list for only 1 dog per household each day
  • Each list will be limited to 3 names per dog
  • After placing your name on a list, you will be given instructions for when and where to return to meet the dog later in the day
  • A name on a list is not a guarantee of adoption, simply an order of meeting with the dog

To adopt a pet from the PAWS Chicago Adopt-a-Thon, you must:

  • Fill out your adoption application online prior to arriving at PAWS Chicago (see below), so we can print the application for you at the Adoption Center.
  • Bring a valid U.S. issued ID
  • Bring all members of the household with you
  • If you rent your house, condo or apartment bring a lease or written form of communication from your landlord that states you can have the type, size, breed, number of pets you are interested in adopting
  • If you are interested in adopting a dog, please bring your resident dog with you
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Verify that you are allowed to have a pet of the breed and size where you currently live
  • Be able to spend the time and resources necessary to provide the training, medical treatment and proper care for your pet
  • Be able to take the pet home on the day of adoption
  • Be available to spend at least an hour with an Adoption Counselor to discuss the responsibility of owning a pet and making a lifetime commitment
  • Spay or neuter any resident pets before you adopt. This is the most important thing you can do to help stop pet overpopulation, and also gives your pet many health and behavioral benefits!
