How long have you been volunteering with PAWS Chicago? What originally drew you to the organization?

I started volunteering at PAWS exactly four years ago. Having adopted two cats, Clara and Marcel, from PAWS in 2012, I already knew it was a special organization doing great work for animals and the community, and figured it would be an ideal place to channel my energy.

Which PAWS Chicago programs/areas do you volunteer in and why?

I’m a level 2 volunteer in Kitty City and an adoption counselor, and I lead orientation classes for new Kitty City volunteers. I really appreciate the times when I’m able to meet adopters as they arrive in Kitty City, help them find a cat they want to take home, then put on my adoption counselor hat and guide them through the rest of the process.

Do you have a favorite experience or memory from your time volunteering?

I always love hearing from adopters after they’ve taken their new family members home with them, particularly when they send photos of the cats in their new environment. On a different note, while I’m not a super extroverted or social person, I get a kick out helping out at and observing the spectacle that is the Fur Ball.

What motivates you to continue volunteering with PAWS Chicago?

Like all of us, the mission of helping animals in need is what drives me, but on a more selfish, personal note, I really enjoy the company of my fellow volunteers and the staff, not to mention the cats.

Do you have any advice for someone who is considering becoming a volunteer?

Don’t hesitate or think of reasons why you might not be able do it. There’s such a variety of rewarding ways you can contribute your time at PAWS, and opportunities to fit every work schedule
