Guardian Angel Planned Giving Society

Guardian Angels are dedicated friends of PAWS Chicago who have committed to leaving a legacy of financial support through a bequest or other planned gift arrangement. By including PAWS Chicago, the city’s largest No Kill humane society, in your estate planning, you will continue to save the lives of homeless animals for years to come.

With so many homeless cats and dogs killed in our community each year, your bequest to PAWS Chicago will provide shelter, food, veterinary care, medicines and loving new homes for countless thousands of animals long after you are gone. PAWS Chicago counts on the generosity of caring friends like you to help save lives. We receive no city, state or federal government funds.

Your planned gift to PAWS Chicago will be your legacy to the animals. When you remember PAWS Chicago in your will or make another planned gift arrangement, you will automatically join the growing roster of PAWS Chicago Guardian Angels.

Guardian Angel Pet Care Program

If you’ve ever asked yourself, “Who will care for my pets when I’m gone?” PAWS Chicago’s Guardian Angel Pet Care program is for you.

The Guardian Angel Pet Care program is designed to give peace of mind to PAWS Chicago supporters who are concerned about the safety of their pets, should something happen to them. By making a planned gift and working with PAWS Chicago representatives to enroll their pets in the Pet Care program, these Guardian Angels know that upon their death or incapacitation, their pet has a safe place to go, will be given quality care and will ultimately find a permanent home.

In addition to providing for their own pets, these Guardian Angels are helping other at risk homeless cats and dogs by financially supporting PAWS Chicago’s important lifesaving work.

Testimonials – Sheryl and Chip Lesch

Five years ago, Sheryl and Chip Lesch came across the PAWS Chicago Angels with Tails adoption event on Michigan Avenue while visiting the city on vacation. These Florida natives were taken by the organization’s No Kill mission. One year later, they decided to buy a home in Chicago and sought out more information about PAWS Chicago.

Sheryl and Chip incorporate their pets into everything they do. They never travel without them and the family always eats together. Currently, the Lesches have two rescue dogs – Sammy, who was found tied up and dehydrated when Hurricane Charlie hit Florida, and Emily, who was a sickly six-month-old rescued from a puppy mill, weighing less than one pound with no hair on her body.

Enrolling in the Guardian Angel Program is a reflection of our confidence that no matter what happens to us, we know the cats and dogs of PAWS Chicago will be taken care of.

After deciding to become more involved with PAWS Chicago, Sheryl and Chip made a visit to the Adoption & Humane Center. Both were deeply touched by the experience. In the past, they had toured many shelters across the country, but never anything quite like this. Chip remarks, “The PAWS Chicago Adoption & Humane Center is a beacon of light on a hill that will show other organizations this is the proper way to do it.” Sheryl adds, “Someone understands how to treat animals with the dignity and respect they so deserve – to all the dogs and cats. What a wonderful role model and platform to spread across the country.”

The Lesches decided to help secure the future of PAWS Chicago by making a planned gift. Chip explains that “enrolling in the Guardian Angel Program is a reflection of our confidence that no matter what happens to us, we know the cats and dogs of PAWS Chicago will be taken care of.”

Testimonials – Loretta and Thomas Jacobs

Loretta and Thomas Jacobs initially learned about PAWS Chicago through Charity Navigator, the nation’s premier independent charity evaluator. Shortly thereafter, the couple became aware of PAWS Chicago’s Guardian Angel Program after reading Angel Tales magazine and decided to enroll so that homeless animals would be taken care of if something happened to them.

We share the vision of making Chicago a No Kill community.

“We believe PAWS Chicago is a wonderfully run organization with the well-being of animals being of foremost importance,” said Loretta and Thomas. “We know our donations to the organization will be used to further the well-being of our Chicagoland animal population and to eventually succeed in making Chicago a No Kill city.”

The couple worked with an attorney to incorporate the Guardian Angel Program into their estate planning. “The process was very easy,” they said. “Our attorney guided us through the ‘heavy lifting’ of creating our trust and prepared the necessary paperwork, including interfacing with PAWS as necessary to ensure our bequest was properly documented.”

Through their planned gift, the Jacobs commitment to homeless animals will help save the lives of countless animals. “We share the vision of making Chicago a No Kill community and an important part of that vision is ensuring animals have loving homes and are well cared for,” they said. “We hope our participation in the Guardian Angel Program will enable that vision to become a reality, sooner than later.”
