When Heather and Adam visited PAWS Chicago, they came in to simply look at the dogs with the intention of returning at a later time to adopt. However, when they saw Marley (PAWS Chicago name Mel) – a Pit Bull Mix, they both instantly knew that she needed to be a part of their family.
“Marley’s description as a ‘goofball’ couldn’t have been more accurate,” said Heather. “She had the sweetest face and her needs were truly a perfect match to our lifestyle and what we were able to provide her.”
During the adoption process, Adam and Heather met with Pit Bull specialist Curtis Scott who provided one-on-one behavioral education for Marley. She also completed a 6-week obedience training class with Curtis to set Marley up for success. “Curtis provided invaluable training tools to use with Marley and was an incredible resource for us with regard to her breed. Marley benefited from the classes, but I, a first-time dog owner, learned the most,” said Heather.
Today, Marley is thriving in her new home. According to Heather and Adam, “she absolutely loves to be loved and is such a ham. She is one-of-a-kind and we truly believe she has single-handedly changed the stereotype of Pit Bulls for many of the people around us. We cannot commend PAWS Chicago enough for their efforts in adopting out bully-breeds.”
