Bruno

Potential adopter Kim came to PAWS Chicago in search of a sibling for her and her boyfriend’s current dog Punky, a Boston Terrier who was great with larger dogs that had lots of energy. During Kim’s first visit to the Adoption Center, she saw Bruno (PAWS Chicago name, Runo), a four-month-old Pit Bull mix. “I immediately knew he was the one,” said Kim. “He was lovable and immediately got on my lap and licked my face.”

Kim brought her boyfriend and Punky to the Adoption Center to meet Bruno. They hit it off and decided to proceed with the adoption. They met with behavioral counselor and trainer Curtis Scott who erased any concerns they had about the breed and did some basic training with Bruno. He also followed-up in their home to observe Bruno’s temperament and teach some additional training techniques. Bruno also took part in a 6-week obedience training close to home.

Today, Bruno is thriving with Kim and her boyfriend. “He is a great addition to our family,” she said. “He immediately took a liking to Punky and it’s apparent that they truly care about each other. He also loves people, is very playful, loving and caring. When we enter the house, he loves to give kisses. When he lies down, he likes to have at least part of his body touching one of ours. When he looks into our eyes, we can see that he wants to learn and obey. He strives to please us.”

“I heard stories about Pit Bulls and may have previously had concerns about such a breed,” said Kim. “Prior to adopting him, friends and family members expressed concerns about adopting a Pit Bull mix. But, I did some research and found that the media seemed to exaggerate the aggressiveness of Pit Bulls and that many of the aggressive dog stories were more of an effect of the dog’s upbringing and training.”

About Bruno, Kim said, “We have absolutely no concerns about any present or future behavioral concerns with him being part Pit Bull. We love him dearly and couldn’t have asked for a better puppy.”
