Yes, we would like to finalize the adoption of Brooks. who is now named Winston. The cats are slowly adjusting to him, and while he’s curious about them he’s been gentle with them and typically backs off when they get upset. He loves to go for long walks and even goes on short jogs. He showed us how he loves to play a crazy chase game with us in the back yard. He loves car rides and often accompanies me to drop off and pick up my husband from the train station. He also thinks he should get to chase all the squirrels in the neighborhood on our walks (we’re going to sign up for K9 University to work on those leash manners.) He was so reserved but has really come out of his shell. He’ll probably never going to be a super affectionate dog but he doesn’t mind if we cuddle on him, and has managed to finagle himself his own spots on the couch, the futon, and on the bed. He’s got the typical shar pei protectiveness too, and the only time he’s ever barked is when someone he doesn’t know knocks or comes in the house. Otherwise he never barks. He also has to check every room in the house whenever we come in from outside to make sure nothing has gone amiss while he was out. He’s a very good dog, and with some more obedience training he’ll be absolutely the best dog ever (in our humble opinion.) Since I’m a volunteer I’m sure PAWS will be hearing lots more about how well he’s doing in the future!
