Weston is doing wonderfully. He’s settled into his new life very quickly. He’s exactly like any other rat terrier. He’ll follow me around the apartment, and he’s pretty feisty when playing. He loves tug of war and just playing with the puppy next door (Ellie adopted from PAWS by John) and with Murphy (formerly known as Demetrio), another PAWS dog that my friends, Leanne and Philip, adopted. He gets along very well with other dogs, and he really enjoys running and playing doggy tag when we go to the dog park. He was pretty shy when he first came home, and he didn’t feel very comfortable unless he was sitting next to me on his dog bed, but now, he sniffs everything, and he’s very alert when someone new comes into the apartment. He’s a good little watch dog, and he’ll become very alert when the front door opens. Weston knew some commands when he first came home (sit, come, and short stay). But, he’s learned paw, lie down, off, drop, and a longer stay. We’ve recently registered for an obedience class. We’re both very excited. It’ll give Weston a chance to apply his intelligence more, and he hopefully won’t get bored, as he’s a very smart dog. Weston’s just such a good dog, and he’s very loving.
Thank you, PAWS, for giving both Weston and myself a chance at
finding such a great companion. We enjoy all of the time we spend together, and he’s comfortable with being alone, too. He’s truly a great dog!
I’ve included a picture of Weston laying next to Teepu (my mom’s dog who is a German shepherd mix).
