Hello PAWS staff and volunteers! Wanted to finally send an update regarding our *two* dog adoptees (now family members). Twiggy (formerly Spirit) and Zee (formerly Zara) are doing very well! During her stay at PAWS, Zee spent most of her time huddled in a corner, shaking. She wouldn’t go on walks and she didn’t really trust anyone. After one day at our house, Zee began participating in the daily walks with Twiggy and are existing dog, Hillary. Zee now loves the outdoors. She comes alive the minute you let her outside. She prances in the back yard with her long legs and she cannot wait to get to the neighborhood park. Zee is still shy, but each day she seems to try something new. We try to ease her out of her comfort zone without pushing her too hard. During Twiggy’s time at PAWS, she was beginning to come out of her shell and make friends. Twiggy is now full of life most of the time! She is energetic and loves to play. While Twiggy is the smallest of our three dogs, she is definitely the fastest. She doesn’t seem to listen as well as the other two, but she is learning. Twiggy enjoys playing with toys and being nosy. “The girls” have come a long way in just 8 weeks. They are both great eaters and have put on a little weight. It was clear once we got home that Twiggy and Zee were not familiar with things that most pet dogs experience on a regular basis. For example, neither knew how to jump in/out of a car; neither understood getting a treat for doing something good; neither seemed familiar with playing with toys; neither seemed to want/need the attention of humans. In the past weeks, it has been a joy to introduce the girls to new experiences and gratifying to watch them blossom. We definitely feel the girls have bonded to us and we expect them to continue to evolve more and more over the coming months. While having three dogs has kept us busy, the girls have been great additions to the family and Hillary is adjusting well.
Regards,
Autumn & Rick Wilson
