Rambo (PAWS Name Kokua)

Good afternoon,

We could not be happier with our decision to adopt Rambo! He has truly settled into his new life and has made himself right at home.

My boyfriend, Spencer, and I knew since the day we started dating five years ago we wanted a dog together. I told Spencer multiple times that we had to wait until we A.) moved in together and B.) for fall – after the crazy wedding season was over. Spencer grew up with black labs and my allergy-ridden self, a 35-pound bichon frise. We knew we needed a poodle-mix and ideally non-white dog. Spencer sent me the link to PAWS website the day Rambo was posted on the site. The evening, immediately after work, we went to PAWS to visit this black/brown poodle-mix we saw online. Rambo was given a Level 3 rating due to him being scared and mouthy when he first arrived into PAWS’ care. We began to play with him and were told that Rambo was going to have to be eased into social situations, especially with other dogs. As a very social couple, we were immediately nervous by this diagnois and decided to “think about it”. I am sure that PAWS has heard numerous potential adoptee say this and then never return. We truly thought about it – or I should say I did. I made spreadsheets, looked at our budget to see if we could afford the upkeep that a dog requires, reviewed our calendar for the next five years, etc. The first thing out of Spencer’s mouth when we left PAWS on that rainy Wednesday night was “we should get him”. That Friday, Rambo was still on PAWS webpage. I sent Spencer an email at work saying, “if you still want Rambo, let’s go pick him up tonight”. As they say, the rest is history. Spencer and Rambo have become quick, close buddies (see photo attached). While Sylvester Stallone’s character Rambo is troubled and skilled in many aspect of survival, weaponry, hand to hand combat and guerrilla warfare, our 21-pound, schnoodle Rambo enjoys chasing a tennis ball, meeting new friends in Lincoln Park, and sporting his new, red-flannel winter coat.

We could not have been happier with our decision to adopt Rambo and through PAWS!!!

Warmest regards,
