Frosty

Oh absolutely we are finalizing the adoption… we are keeping this kitty ….His name was Whiskers at your shelter but when we got him home we re-named him “Frosty”…he is well behaved, comes running when we whistle and snap our fingers..(he thinks he is a puppy), and he is a real clown…he loves us as much as we love him. The unbelievable thing is that this cat was returned to the shelter after being adopted…we have no idea why…it is truly their loss and our gain.

Frosty is a wonderful cat…very loving…minds very well, is well-adjusted and became an integral part of our family instantly!!! There was no adjustment problems at all. He just walked in and took over!

The story gets even better and so I want to share it with all of you…Our 16-year old cat, that we adopted from the Animal Shelter on LaSalle Street, sadly left us several weeks ago for kitty heaven. My son, who grew up with this cat was very attached to him..and was adamant that we were getting another cat right away. My husband and I thought we all needed more time to get over losing Fudge. Well…not paying any attention to us our son and his girlfriend went on a whirlwind tour of the shelters in Chicago and luckily found Paws and Whiskers, aka Frosty.

The funny part of this entire story is how both of our adopted kitty cats got their names. When our son was 5 he named our newly adopted cat Fudge ..His name at the shelter was Mario….but because we were not sure we should get a cat I suggested we go across the street to McDonalds and have a hot fudge sundae to discuss the responsibilities of owning a cat (my husband had told us absolutely NO…we were not getting a cat)….well, as we were eating and I was discussing responsibilities to our five-year old, who I am certain heard not a word I was saying…..squealed…”Mom…this sundae looks like the kitty…we will name her Fudge”..so the rest is history…we took Fudge home wondering how it happened…but never regretted it one time as she was our faithful and wonderful companion all those years…..

So fast forward to now…this time both my husband and I said no…we explained to our son that we are just not ready to go through this again after losing Fudge and even though Whiskers is awfully cute…we just don’t want to commit again. So, he said let’s go to Wendy’s to talk about this and we will get a frosty. As we were all eating our “frostys” he yelled out….”Mom…Whiskers looks just like this frosty…so I’m naming him “Frosty”…Well…as you can imagine we all busted up laughing. So…we now are the proud owners of “Frosty”…who is a wonderful cat. Shows you what control we have over our son..from the time he was 5 and up until now at 19..we definitely are in control….(smile)

Thanks to you wonderful people at PAWS….what a wonderful facility…we love the newest member of our home…and even though we truly do miss (McDonalds)….”FUDGE”…we truly do love (Wendy’s)…”FROSTY”.
