I'm a Pit Pal! - Learn more about the Pit Pals

Diamonds are forever, and this sweet two-year-old Pit Bull Terrier is hoping to find her forever home soon! Diamond came to PAWS Chicago more than a year ago after she was turned into the city pound. Diamond had been scheduled to be euthanized later that day, but when PAWS Chicago’s intake team members walked by her and saw her tail start to wag, she was brought into PAWS Chicago’s Rescue & Recovery Center. Once there, PAWS veterinarians diagnosed Diamond with mange, leaving her almost completely bald, and found that she was also suffering from pneumonia. These medical issues are common in animals who have been neglected.

PAWS veterinarians provided Diamond with long-term medical treatment to heal the mange and pneumonia. After several months with PAWS, Diamond was transferred to a loving foster home where she could continue to recover in comfort. She spent several months in foster with her human and canine foster family where her beautiful black coat grew back. Today, Diamond is warm and safe at PAWS Chicago’s Adoption Center where she has received a new start at life.

Diamond is an excitable and active girl hoping to find adopters who like to run and play just as much as she does. This 47-pound pup is gets along well with a lot of other dogs, but does best with other energetic dogs who also enjoy a rough and tumble style of play. In her foster home, she got along great with the two female dogs of a similar size and breed! Diamond could be an only pet or share a home with other dogs, as long as she has an experienced owner who can monitor her as she doesn’t always like to share her toys with other canines. A home without cats is preferred.

Diamond absolutely loves people and would do best in a home with kids 10+ while she continues to develop her social skills. Diamond has attended doggie daycare at K9 University, and would love to enroll in an obedience class with her new family. Her leash manners have improved significantly in her time at PAWS, but she will still need positive reinforcement to help her succeed in her new home. This clever girl will also benefit from structured activities like agility, flyball, or lots of fetch to give her an outlet for both her mental and physical energy.

Diamond has been with PAWS Chicago for more than a year, making her our longest term dog. She is a very loving girl who will make a great addition to the right family! If you are not the perfect fit for her, help Diamond by sharing this information with friends and family who might just be able to provide her with the forever home she deserves.

With Diamond’s adoption comes a certificate for a one-month complimentary Total Care package from Green Paws Chicago, which includes weekday walks, teeth cleaning, ear cleaning, de-shedding and flea and tick prevention.
