Part-time Shelter Medicine Vet- Chicago No Kill Shelter
Responsible for ensuring the highest quality of care for the cats and dogs that are under PAWS Chicago ownership. This vet is responsible for the initial examination, vaccinations, diagnosis, and treatment or treatment recommendations for all of the PAWS Chicago adoption cats and dogs. This person will collaborate with the Chief Veterinarian and ensure the PAWS Chicago Medical Protocols are followed.  This position is open on a pat-time basis, Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday at eight hours-a-day. Part Time Animal Care Giver (Rescue and Recovery Center)
Playing one of the most crucial roles in the direct care of all PAWS Chicago internal animals, Animal Caregivers are responsible for the daily care and cleaning of all animals housed at PAWS Chicago’s Rescue and Recovery Center. This includes: daily feeding, and cleaning of all animal areas (both dogs and cats). Animal Caregivers must be willing to work closely with all PAWS Chicago team members including the volunteer team. Animal Caregivers are responsible for closely monitoring and following through with the medical and behavior observation logs to ensure each animal is receiving the PAWS Chicago care standard.

  • Must be able to work one weekend day and holidays.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs and walk/hold large dogs on outdoor walks and on stairways
  • Driver’s License required
  • Animal handling experience in a shelter environment a plus

Part-time and as-needed basis Vet tech for high volume Spay Neuter Clinic. PAWS Chicago Adoption Program Internships
PAWS Chicago offers internships for individuals seeking academic credit. These positions are unpaid and operate within the guidelines of each university.  Interns can engage in a variety of volunteer responsibilities including, but not limited to, interaction/socialization with and care of dogs and cats, showing animals to potential adopters, assisting with a wide variety of administrative functions, participating in or leading animal adoptions, hosting training classes, etc.  Students in this position can also learn database management, psychology of matching people with animals (adoptions), special events planning and more. Students will experience the wide diversity of the operations of an animal rescue organization, what goes into making it work and succeed each day. Duties can be tailored to fit into different educational majors and requirements as much as is practically possible.

PAWS Chicago staff can provide mentorship to students in their professional capacities and give students hands-on exposure to this highly-rated and well-respected not-for-profit organization. Interns should share our passion for animals, believe in our mission to create a No Kill Chicago, and be willing to take the extra step. Interns will be asked to commit to a regular, mutually agreed upon schedule, for a minimum of 10 hours per week, and a three-to six-month term of service. All applicants must attend a two-hour New Volunteer Orientation and hands-on training for their specific area of interest, as well as possibly two, one-hour Level 1 Training Courses. Interns must also comply with dress code, other center requirements and conduct themselves in a professional manner consistent with the company handbook.

We strive to create an environment for our interns which fosters ethics, learning and development while developing a deeper understanding and practice of community service. This is a wonderful opportunity to make volunteering count twice!
