If
you haven't had the experience of fostering an animal in need,
you are really missing out! I've found fostering to be one of
the most rewarding and positive experiences of my life. You are
truly giving these animals a second chance in a very personal
way -- in the warm, safe and welcoming environment of a real
home.
You are able to help them to recover and get physically and
mentally prepared for a wonderful new home. While it can
sometimes be hard to see them go on to their new home, knowing
that you made a difference and helped them get there makes it
all worth while!
I recommend fostering for all types of people in different
situations -- from those who aren't ready to commit to adopting
long-term but want to test the waters, to those who already have
other animals and want to make a difference without having to
adopt another, to families who want to set a good example for
their children and get them involved with giving back to the
community. It's also a great way to show your kids both the joy
and the responsibility involved with having a pet through a
relatively short-term commitment!
