Our pets are there for us when we need them most. They are often our source of
comfort, sanity, support, and unconditional love. We cannot imagine our lives
without them. So when we face the reality of losing our best friend, many pet
owners experience an overwhelming sense of loss and feel very alone in the
grieving process. The most important thing to recognize is that you are not
alone! The sense of disorientation, loss, guilt, and sadness is natural: people
just don’t commonly communicate these feelings and experiences.PAWS Chicago
seeks to create a medium of support for those going through the death of a best
four-legged friend. On this website, you will find resources and articles on pet
illness, pet loss and pet grieving, as well as when and how to say good-bye. If
you would like to share a personal experience, story, or advice on pet loss, or
if you can recommend a good book that helped you through the process, please
email sahlberg@pawschicago.org.
